Few Artists can lay claim to International success spanning several decades, but beginning with the release of his first single FLYING in Brazil in 1975, which remained at No. 1 in the charts for 17 weeks, Chris de Burgh has achieved this.
In 1980 his Album EASTERN WIND became one of the biggest selling albums of all time in Sweden. A year later, its follow up album MAN ON THE LINE, was a top 30 album in the UK and 20 other countries, while the single HIGH ON EMOTION went to No. 1 in 10 European countries.
In 1986, Chris was about to become a household name with the album INTO THE LIGHT and the now evergreen ballad LADY IN RED. This song achieved No. 1 status in 25 countries, including the UK and went to No. 2 in America and has sold in excess of 8 million copies.
Chris has fan bases in and across the UK, Australia, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, Canada, The Far East and Brazil. His biggest fan base is Germany (80 million people) and he continues to perform in sell-out concerts all over the world.
Chris has been presented with more than 200 Gold and Platinum sales awards. In 2000 Chris was invited to New York to receive a rare honour from the American-Irish Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his significant contribution to that community.
Chris’s album THE ROAD TO FREEDOM, released through his own record company Ferryman Productions in Germany in 2004, reached No. 5 in the charts and has sold in excess of 100,000 copies. The following album was called THE STORYMAN, released in October 2006.
Chris is very excited about writing the soundtrack album for THROUGH THESE EYES, being involved in the writing of the storyline and producing the movie.His songs have appeared in films such as ARTHUR 2 (Dudley Moore) for which he co-wrote the song Love Is My Decision with Burt Bacharach, and WORKING GIRL (Harrison Ford/Sigourney Weaver).
His album NOW AND THEN entered the UK Album Charts at No. 12 in May 2008.
His latest album of cover versions FOOTSTEPS was released in Germany on 21 November 2008 and reached No. 9 in the German Album Charts. It entered the UK Album Charts at No. 4 in April 2009.
Chris has just received in Germany the prestigious DIVA – Hall of Fame – World Music Award, previous winners include Brian Ferry, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Gerard Depardieu, Jeff Goldblum, Ursula Andress, John Malkovich, Daryl Hannah, Lauren Bacall, Michael Flatley, Christpher Lambert, Jean Reno and Angelina Jolie.
Worldwide sales of Chris’s albums have now exceeded 45 million.
